Sports Direct grabs a Glasgow letting at Sauchiehall
Sports Direct has secured a 13,000 sq ft letting at the soon-to-be refurbished Sauchiehall Building in Glasgow. The sports retailer, which bought a new £108m Oxford Street HQ last week, has taken a new 10-year lease on the former JJB Sports unit at 185 Sauchiehall Street. Planning consent has recently been secured for redevelopment of both corners of the Sauchiehall Building to provide restaurant units. Advanced legal negotiations are ongoing with a national restaurant on the eastern corner, and there are various interests being considered from restaurant and coffee shop operators on the western corner. The building, formerly known as the Sauchiehall Centre, was acquired by KKR and Quadrant Estates in March 2015 Founding partner of Quadrant Estates Christopher Daniel said the new letting to Sports Direct“highlights the strength of the pitch”. “Our aim is to improve the vitality and viability of Sauchiehall Street. “We are confident that our ongoing enhancements of the Sauchiehall Building will create an exciting and vibrant leisure hub, helping to attract greater footfall, and put Sauchiehall Street firmly on the map as a top retail and leisure destination.” Montagu Evans and Paradigm Property Consultants advised KKR and Quadrant Estates. Sports Direct was represented by DWR Property.
